Accommodations, Dining & Dressing
Forty-two single rooms in eight cottages around the main lodge are available at Riverview
Plantation. We accept only 30 hunting guests at one time. During your stay, you’ll enjoy authentic Southern cuisine including sizzling catfish and hushpuppies, homemade soups, luscious pecan pie
and bobwhite quail prepared the Riverview Plantation way. We also offer a sizeable stock of beverages, including a good selection of wines with your dinner.
Hunting clothes are appropriate for breakfast and lunch, and sports coats are customary for dinner.
Weather varies during our hunting season. Early in
the season you may be comfortable in the light hunting trousers, a cotton shirt and a shooting vest. From mid-December through March, temperatures usually dip to 40 degrees at night and reach the
high 60s or low 70s during the day. However, four or five Canadian fronts sweep into South Georgia each year, driving the mercury down to 20 degrees at night and holding it to 30 or 40 degrees
during the day. The fronts seldom last more than two or three days. We recommend layering clothing, especially during January and February, so that you can add or take off garments as comfort requires.[Check the ten day forecast.]
For your convenience our Pro Shop offers a
complete selection of light and heavy hunting clothing and accessories. These quality garments
come in a wide variety of sizes and styles and include items in blaze orange, which is required wear for safety reasons when hunting at Riverview.
We are happy to take your order early for items you want upon arrival or we’ll assist you in making selections after you arrive. We also offer all gauges of shotgun shells with loads best suited for
quail hunting and practice trap. Riverview takes pride in being able to quickly and easily outift you in everything you’ll need.
Additionally, Riverview offers a pleasing assortment of unique gifts including items with a
wildlife motif, gift tins of our native pecans and Riverview Plantation’s own cookbook of prized
Southern recipes. [See our Quail Recipe] You can now shop in our online pro shop and purchase many of these items from the comfort of your own home! We have mayhaw and blackberry jelly, an assortment of belts, and so much more.
